Pooh – Roo’s New Babysitter (Draft)

7/29/26 Just want to say I bought some more Disney’s Pooh story collections and the arts and illustrations are stunning, so colorful and lively.

(1) What I like and why: My favorite part of this story is when Roo doesn’t want to be babysat by Pooh and gets frustrated that he can’t go shopping with his mom. Then they solve the problem by letting Roo babysit Pooh.

I like it because that’s a great way to solve a problem. The root cause might be that Roo doesn’t want to be taken care of but rather he wants to take care of something.

A small detail that I like is when Roo told his mom that he’s good at shopping (it’s funny because shopping is not something that one is good at).

(2) Techniques: When trying to help someone, he/she might not want to be helped because what they really want might be that they want to help someone, not be helped. If we let them help, they would enjoy it and that is the goal (they are happy).

(3) My story:

Bear was depressed and not having a good day. Skunk and friends wanted to help him feel better.

“Bear, let’s go play in the meadow.”

“Hmm, I don’t know. What are we going to play?”

“Either Hide and Seek or Tag or maybe something else.”

“Hmm I don’t know.”

“What game do you want to play?”

“Hmm I don’t know.”

“Come on Bear.”

“Sorry I think I just want to rest today.”

“Bye Bear. I hope you feel better soon.”

As they walked to the meadow, Skunk thought about Bear.

“I don’t want to play and have fun when Bear is all alone and not having fun.”

“But what can we do? He doesn’t want to play with us today,” said Fox.

“I think maybe he doesn’t want to play hide and seek or tag,” said Monkey.

“What does he want to play then? We asked but he said he didn’t know what he wanted to play,” said Squirrel.

“Maybe he did know but he just didn’t want to share.”

“What do you think he wants to play?”

“Hmm I don’t know.”

“Are we being bad friends? We don’t know much about him.”

“Poor Bear, we will ask him again tomorrow.”

“What should we play today?”

“Hide and Seek?”

“I don’t feel like playing that today?”

“yeah, we just played that game a couple days ago.”

“Tug of War?”

“No, I always fall and hurt my knees.”

“And my team always lose.”

They can’t decide what to play.

“Let’s go ask Bear for ideas.”

“Yeah, sometimes he had brilliant ideas.”

(*note to self: I don’t really like the story so far, some good some bad but I allow it to be bad so I can keep writing)

They all walked back to Bear’s house.

“Hey Bear!”

“Hey why are you all coming back?”

“We don’t know what to play so we want to head back to visit you.”

“Oh, come on in”

(*Note to self: this is better. I don’t want them to go back and ask Bear for ideas, it doesn’t feel right.)

“Do you have water, Bear?”

“Ah yes, water coming.”

They all sat around a table waiting for Bear to bring water out.

Bear came out with a tray of water and some cake.

“It’s nice to have guests in the house,” Bear said, “It’s been a long while.”

“You have some nice board games in your house, Bear.”

“I love board games, but I haven’t played in a long while. They are all just sitting there collecting dust.”

“I love board games too.”

“Me too.”

“Let’s play,” Bear said with a smile, “I have just a perfect game we can all play together.”

He brought the game out and lead them outside to play in the shade of the beloved old oak tree.

The story above is still not quite right, because I want Bear to take the initiative and invite friends to play a game of his choosing. They are trying to help him, how to make it so that he helps them instead? He doesn’t want to be a victim all the time, he wants to be the rescuer.

“Let’s play doctor and patients.”

Bear chose the doctor role and his friends were his patients.

Or he could be a firefighter, saving others from fires.

Maybe he’s a musician and play music to help others feel better.
