Winnie the Pooh: Owl’s reading lessons

7/6/26 (1) What I like: Surprise! surprise but make sense. Owl often reads to his friends. One day they begged him to read another book but he refused in order to rest and prepare for his birthday the next day.

Pooh, Piglet, Roo, Eeyore, Tigger, Rabbit wondered if they were asking Owl to read to them too often, and what presents they could give Owl for his birthday.

-Surprise: Pooh’s idea: read to owl

-Surprise 2: Owl was afraid that his friend wouldn’t ask him to read to them anymore. (Reading to his friends means a lot to him)

(2) Why I like it: (a)Surprises!

(b)I think someone is not pleased with me because I keep asking her to do something over and over and I think she’s tired of it.

She actually enjoys doing it, and she’s afraid that I’m tired of whatever she does for me.

This is actually very similar to the “lunch for the bully” story I did the other day. Not sure why I like that so much. I think maybe I like that fact that I can be myself and it’s beneficial to others and it makes them happy?

(3) Writing techniques: You think you are making someone unhappy but you’re actually making them happy, and they’re afraid that you would stop doing what you are doing.

(4) My story: -simple story: everything is the same, but replace asking owl to read with making mom breakfast, lunch, and dinner on her birthday.

-In a vibrant neighborhood, friends playing together. What can a group of animals ask a friend to do? A friend who doesn’t go out or socialize much, but is loved. This group of friends kept coming over because unconsciously they don’t want him to feel lonely. That friend may not talk much when they’re there, but he really enjoys cooking food for them, and cooking for them sand seeing them happy makes him happy. He’s fine with being alone, enjoying company occasionally, land making others happy makes him happy. Cooking brings out his creativity and passion and he doesn’t want to just cook for himself. (Again, the theme is it’s gratifying to be able to be yourself and being yourself makes others happy.)

Skunk, Wild Fowl, Grizzly Bear, Fox, Squirrel liked to go to Rabbit’s house because they enjoy Rabbit’s cooking. One day as always they were excited to knock on his door. Rabbit came out, looking tired.

“Sorry I am not feeling well today and won’t be able to cook for you.”

“Are you okay, Rabbit? Do you need anything?”

“No, I am fine. I just need some rest, that’s all. Come back tomorrow. If I feel better I will cook for you.”

“No it’s ok Rabbit. Take care of yourself. We won’t need you to cook for us any time soon.”

The group of friends slowly turned around, and started walking toward the clearing in the wood where they usually hung out. Rabbit shut the door gently. For a moment, he thought his friends were mad at him for turning them down.

“Poor Rabbit! Does he have anyone to take care of him? He’s always alone it seems, except when we come over,” said Skunk.

“Maybe he’s just tired of cooking for us,” said Wild Fowl.

“Yeah, all we do is coming to his house and eating his food,” said Grizzly Bear.

“Nah, he’s never complained. I think he likes to see us around,” said Fox.

“Would you like people show up at your house uninvited, and bring nothing to give you?” asked Grizzly Bear.

“And don’t clean up after eating,” said Squirrel.

“Oh, we are bad. We are sooo baaaad!” said Skunk.

“Poor Rabbit! He has to deal with us, and never have I heard him complain,” said Grizzly Bear.

“Maybe we should do something for him? Something to cheer him up.”

“Yeah, he needs someone to cheer him up.”

“Yes, Yes! What can we do for Rabbit?”

They stopped talking and started thinking silently in their head. They had never thought of doing anything nice for Rabbit.

“How inconsiderate of us! We have NEVER done anything nice for Rabbit.”

“What does Rabbit like? I can’t think of anything he likes.”

“We never asked. We just come to his house and eat.”

They kept on thinking and thinking. Suddenly Skunk thought of something.

“Maybe we can cook something for him.”

“That’s a great idea Skunk! I will cook something to help him feel better quickly. Maybe hearty soup.”

“I will cook something to give him energy. He has low energy it seems.”

“I will cook something that will make him smile.”

“I will look for my secret family recipe that has been passed down to me from my great great great great grandparents.”

“I will cook for him with the vegetables I grow in my garden.”

“I will cook him a fancy meal, a masterpiece, a meal worthy for a king.”

“I will bake him delicious cookies and deserts.”

They all went their separate ways back to their houses, determining to cook the best meal ever for their friend.

However, they were all struggling to cook a good meal. The next day, they reluctantly brought their dishes to Rabbit’s house. Some were burnt, some were, overcooked, some were undercooked, some were too salty, some were not sweet enough, some were too sloppy.

“I am not feeling good about this. My meal is burnt.”

“I don’t think Rabbit will like my dish.”

“Rabbit will think my cookies are not sweet enough.”

“I hope Rabbit doesn’t think my soup is too sloppy.”

“I hope Rabbit doesn’t have a stomachache after eating my noodles.”

They knocked on the door. Rabbit opened the door with a faint smile on his face.

“Rabbit, are you feeling better today?”

“Yes, as a matter of fact, yes, I’m feeling way better than yesterday! Come on in!”

“We have something for you. We hope you like it.”

“What is it?”

They showed him their dishes, looking at his face for reactions.

“Oh thank you friends. Put them all on the table and we will share.”

They sat around the round table. Rabbit took out his plates and utensils. They all sat in their chair and started eating.

“I have to be honest. My food is not good. Sorry Rabbit!”

“My dish tastes terrible.”

“I love your food,” said Rabbit.

“Our foods are not as good as yours Rabbit. Not even close!”

“And we are sorry that we come to your house uninvited and eat your food.”

“And we didn’t bother to clean up after we were done eating.”

“Don’t worry friends. I am truly happy to cook for you. I am happy to share my food with you.”

“Really?”

“Yes, I love cooking. Cooking brings out the creativity in me.”

“Really?”

“Yes, cooking is my passion, maybe my only passion. It brings out the best in me.”

“I am so glad to hear that.”

“Yes, and nothing is better than sharing my passion, my creativity with friends.”

“Oh, I am so relieved to hear that.”

“I was afraid that you don’t want to come to my house any more. That you don’t want to share my food with me anymore.”

“Not true at all. After trying to cook my own fancy dish, I have much more appreciation for your cooking.”

“Would you mind… cooking something for us today? If you feel like it?

“Yes, of course. I was preparing for your arrival the other day until I started to feel ill. Everything is ready, I just need to put them on the stove.”

“Let us help you cook if you need anything.”

“And we promise we will clean up after we are done eating.”
